Ultra Violet: Pantone Colour of the Year 2018

The 7th of December saw the official announcement of the Pantone Colour of the Year 2018 in the New York Times.

Selecting Ultra Violet 18-3838 for the year ahead, Pantone described the blue based purple as “dramatically provocative and thoughtful.”

Desired to represent originality, visionary thinking, and non-conformity, the message is perfectly communicated by influential and rebellious figures that dared to creatively push boundaries; whether it be Jimi Hendrix’s Purple Haze or Price, “the purple one” whose legacy was honoured earlier this year when the Prince Estate and Pantone unveiled an official shade of purple dedicated to the musical legend… Love Symbol #2.

“We are living in a time that requires inventiveness and imagination. It is that kind of creative inspiration that is indigenous to Pantone 18-3838.” – Leatrice Eiseman, Executive Director of the Pantone Color Institute.
